Are there really preparations to keep your home safe? Yes. Preparing is essential to keep your home safe but also to help your insurance company after the storm hits, if it does affect your home.
Make sure all outdoor items and toys are secure or locked up. All windows and doors should be closed and locked. Take photos of your home before the storm. This way you can show how great of shape and the details of your home. This step makes sure you have images to show to insurance so you can get full reimbursement for any damages.
It never hurts to take a look at your policy for a storm hits. Make sure your coverage works for your home. Don’t let the damage happen and it be too late for an insurance policy to help.
After the storm hits, take pictures again, especially if there is damage. These images are what insurance companies need in order to help assess the damage. Make sure to check the inside of your house also. Damage can appear in the form of cracks, water damage and discolorations/burns to wood, walls, ceilings etc. Take photos of the indoor damages too. Also, don’t mess with anything until an adjuster can see the damages.
Make sure you are prepared to keep your home and family safe.
